(1/26/10)   Oregon senator Jeff Merkley says Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke is not the right man to rebuild the nation's economy. Senator Merkley last month became the first Democrat to oppose Bernanke’s confirmation for a second term as Federal Reserve Chairman. Now the senator has been joined by more Democrats and a growing number of Republicans. Merkley says the fed chief's first term was stained by several mistakes.  He also says Bernanke cared too much about short-term profits and not enough about the consumer."He missed virtually everything… and he helped set the circumstances that led to our economic house burning down. And is that the person you want to be the architect of putting the economy back together?" Bernanke is expected to be confirmed to the position later this week.
