Lassen Complex Fire Burns One Home And 17-Hundred Acres.

(7/26/10) Fire crews in northern California are trying to get a massive wildfire under control. The Lassen Complex fire has already burned more than 17-hundred acres and destroyed one home and two other buildings. Fire crews are worried because a strong storm is also moving into the area and is creating winds of up to 50 miles per hour. The fire is about 10-percent contained and officials aren't sure when they expect to have the fire completely under control.

 

Friend Of Kyron's Family Subject Of Search Warrant

(7/23/10)  There are new developments in the Kyron Hormon investigation. A long-time friend of the boy's family has become a focus in the case.According to Kyron's parents, Dee Dee Spicher of Tualatin has been in close communication with Kyrons stepmother Terri Moulton Hormon, since the day Kyron disappeared. The family released a statement Thursday night saying Spicher is not cooperating with detectives. NBC Portland affiliate KGW TV reported Spicher's home and two others were searched by law enforcement in the last week. According to Medford Police Lt. Bob Hansen, search warrants have to fit certain criteria in order to be obtained. "To get a search warrant you have to prove to a judge, I have enough evidence to get a search warrant and go in."  But Hansen also warns that "just because a search warrant is obtained doesn't mean the person is guilty." He says you don’t always find what your looking for.

             

 

Fair Gives Some A Chance For Employment

(7/22/10) Dozens of men and women are able to pay their bills all thanks to temporary work at the Jackson County Fair going on this week.  Fair officials say putting on an event of this magnitude requires a lot of outside help. Jobs range from parking attendants to security personal. This year, officials have hired one-hundred temporary workers to help put on the fair. And organizers are encouraging others to sign up say if you're interested in a job at the fair. Events coordinator Melissa Damon says jobs may even be available in the future. "They should go down to personnel source and sign up, that's where we get our temporary people. We'll be looking for people for the Harvest Fair which is September 25th and 26th. And we are looking for people throughout the year to do various things."

 

Fred Meyer Chain In Portland Dropping Plastic Carry-Out Bags

 (7/21/10)  For years customers at grocery checkout stands could get their choice of paper or plastic carry-out bags. Now that choice is beginning to diminish as the Fred Meyer chain has decided to eliminate the plastic option in Portland at the end of this month. The decision effects ten locations on August 1st. While there are no such plans currently for southern Oregon and northern California, Fred Meyer wants your opinion. Ashland School District Buys iPods For The Classroom

(7/20/10) iPod “Touches” have been added to the curriculum of three Ashland schools.   The Ashland School District spent nearly $50,000 to provide 150 Apple iPods to the students at Ashland High School and to first and second graders at Belleview and Walker Elementary Schools. The Students will be able to download applications for science and reading classes as a way to enhance learning. A district official says educators will monitor usage so students don't abuse the system by getting online.
